Amen to the Strong Towns diagram. I don't entirely agree with the degree of blame he applies to engineers, particularly things like "The Nuremberg Defense." I would accrue more blame to the curricula that produce the mindset that prioritizes traffic flow and speed over other considerations. Just like the Nazis, the colleges brainwash them when they're young.
You are right that the training, taken as Biblical, is partly to blame. I've had discussions with DOT engineers that sounded a lot like the one in that video cartoon as well. Its as though some of them refuse to budge.
Well, yeah, this makes a lot of sense. Though I think it would help as well if motorists are well-informed, not by street signs, but through proper information drives.
