This, of course, is the problem

The problem?
The way NM law is currently written there is no difference in penalty options for "careless driving" that causes no injuries and "careless driving" that causes the death or severe bodily injury of another road user.   You can do your part to change this.  Contact your elected officials today.
Crashes that killed James Quinn, Roy Sekreta, John Anczarski, Heather Reu, Scott Duane Lane and Dan Montoya, as well as the crash that severely injured both John and Liz Mazzola also illustrate this situation.

Biker Day 2011. Lycra and Leather actually go quite well together

While I won't be there in person, I'll be with y'all in spirit and will observe a moment of respectful silence at 2PM CST. While cycling is safe and fun, it'd be funner if I knew the laws were more sensible. As in this bill.

Hey Khal,

Thanks for posting this. I've long agonized over the "decriminalization" of cyclist murder in this county and our state. It's nice to see this legislation happening. I am inclined to go to the event.

If other like-minded individuals are interested as well, maybe we can all carpool, or hell, maybe i'll hoist my fat ass onto a bicycle seat and ride there!

Best regards,

--Jim

Would be nice to get a contingent headed down from BombTown all at once. I'll repost as the time gets close.

I went back and read the bill.

It's toothless! What a disappointment!

You can murder a cyclist (pedestrian, whomever) and get a slap on the wrist with HB 12. Totally lame.

I rescind my former comment. But I still may ride to SF.
