Are More Cyclists Commuting on the Roads of Los Alamos?

Are More Cyclists Commuting on the Roads of Los Alamos?

It sure looks that way to me. This morning, coming past the high school on Diamond Drive about 8:10, there were 4 other cyclists in a line immediately in front of me, none of them apparently traveling together but just fellow commuters who happened to be in the same place at the same time.

Left lane full of motor vehicles, right lane full of bicycles.

Here's hoping for lots more of the same!

I think there are more. Also, check out the article in today's New Mexican.

I have started to commute on bike 2 days a week from Nambe. It is a bit hairy/scary on the main hill road, and on the section between the front hill road and the truck route. The other days of the week I am riding my bike to the bus. That works well too. If San Ildefonso would allow it, I would come up Guaje Canyon on my mountain bike to avoid the car traffic.

Ed, has anyone asked the San I folks lately if they would allow it?

Khai,

I was actually wondering who to ask at San I about this? I am not sure how to "make an offer" to them, they will be worried about liability is my guess. There seems to be more activity in that canyon now than before, construction looking trucks. So far I have been riding up the main hill road, leaving later from Nambe to get behind the peak in traffic flow, and staying way to the right using a cyclocross bike and mountain bike. When I combine the ride up, and take the bus home on rainy afternoons it works quite well.
