Los Alamos to be hit by 10 km asteroid late in 2014

Or, more precisely, a roundabout. See Carol Clark's article for details. There will be some very unhappy people here.  My main concerns (and I think similar concerns have been expressed by former County Councillor Robert Gibson) are that the County continues to lack a comprehensive master plan for the downtown that integrates transportation and development with a cohesive, objective set of goals (such as limiting sprawl, making Los Alamos less car-dependent, and broadening our economic base beyond LANL). Otherwise, I think the roundabout will be kinda cool. Until and unless, of course, we build more stuff on the East side of town the clogs our traffic.

I'm confused. What is wrong with a roundabout?

You had to be here to hear the discussions, which verged on insurrection. Some of the folks up here equate the roundabout with the asteroid. Hence the Brando clip from Apocalypse Now.

OMG... the end is near? What is a "roundabout?"

There's nothing wrong with roundabouts as long as you never have to cross one on foot. and as long as you don't mind being T-boned by a car or T-boning a car while trying to navigate through one on a bike, but that's what helmets are for, right?

That and pedestrianism is a long outdated paradigm.

Long live car culture!

This is the end of LA. Tourists will shun the town or take the tour over NM4 thru the Jemez to avoid this rediculous inconvenience. Commuters to LANL will avoid town and redirect to the Truck Route. Business in town will dry up and die (even the Brew Pub.) This is terrible :-) The Co-Op Market will have to find a new location as no sensible townie will drive down there to shop.
